Slovak poem

Slovak poem
Photo of Drotari, Slovak migratory people who mended pots and pans and made things out of junk. (More on them soon.)

The thunder’s lightning, no longer ashamed of emotions

Some kind of people connected to mountains.

They said hey ya the gold is over that mountain,

And we never left that place so we believed them.

Were we the first people there ever, and what was our name?

Were we the first people after lava? Were we rocks before we were people

Were we rolling on the dead rocks like dogs on dead carcasses?

Were we finding the life once there by rolling in the dirt?

Maybe when I hallucinated the ancestral dress, it was actually yours.

You’re closer to the curtain than most people with pale skin

Outside of this curtain we’ll never know how this feels

Outside of this dotted line we’ll never know how this feels

Outside of this divider we’ll never know how this feels
